Wet Method
Wet Visible Method particles have a mean particle size of 10 to 20 microns, so it is particularly good at detecting small cracks. This Wet Method Particle is most commonly Black. In order to highlight the very fine Black Particles, a White Lacquer Paint is used. We commonly refer to this method as Black on White.
Wet Fluorescent MPI Inspection is very popular, however operators must have a UV Lamp (Black Light) in order to see the indications. Wet Fluorescent is a bit more sensitive than Wet Visible.
Sherwin’s Glo-Netic is a high quality Fluorescent Wet Method Suspension, used for Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI). Glo-Netic produces bright and clean indication to find microscopic cracks in ferrous metals during magnetic particle inspection. Glo-Netic fluoresces under long wave ultraviolet light (UVA), and shows a bright green-yellow indication. Unlike some of the most popular Wet Fluorescent Aerosols, Glo-Netic’s fluorescent additive is tightly adhered to the Iron Oxide in the suspension, thus there is a minimum of Fluorescent Background that is common with lower quality products. Wet Fluorescent MPI is very common for Mechanical Inspection in such industries as Aerospace, Forging, Casting, Automotive, Power Generation, and Mobile Equipment. Glo-Netic is widely used during; ▫Pressure Vessel Turn-arounds for stress and welding cracks. ▫Pipeline Digs to find Stress Corrosion Cracking. ▫Threaded Components used in Oilwell Drilling and Mobile Equipment.
